Basenji Art Stained Glass

Original Basenji Stained Glass by Dog Artist Holly Klay
The noble Basenji stands in the forefront of three pyramids glowing
under the full moon. A stylized pyramid pattern borders the piece, providing
a picture within a picture effect in this Basenji art.
The traditional copper foil method was utilized for the construction of
this piece and a wide variety of glass was used to give the solid, opaque
look of the Basenji, the textured border, and the iridescent moon. All of
these items combine to give this dog art as much interest at night as it has
with full sun shining behind behind the glass. This is framed in Zinc and
hung with an adjustable length chain from each corner. This outstanding work
measures 16" tall and 19" wide.
As you can see, Holly Klay's attention to detail and total perfection in
all she does is why people from all over the country are seeking after her
dog art.

Original Stained Glass
Anytime we decide to create
an original piece of dog art, the natural starting place has to be in the
research department. To assist in the determination of what design and form
the basenji art should take; I look to the origins of the dog and the traits
that are considered standard for the breed.
I knew right away that the
Egyptian heritage should be reflected throughout this dog art stained
glass. The sleek lines of the basenji should also be reflected throughout.
Geometric lines are always a good way to communicate that sleekness through
the dog art. Therefore, the lines of the pyramids are reflected and
inverted into the bordering of the basenji art.
But,
nothing should take away from the majestic nature of the basenji. The
Basenji descended from the earliest Pariah dogs of African prehistory, and
to create a Basenji art piece, that nobility needed to be reflected. That
is why the dog stands dominating the pyramids in the foreground of this
stained glass dog art.

About My Basenji Dog Art Model Ramses:
Ramses was extraordinary from day
one. When we brought him home at just 9 weeks, "the girls" didn't want
anything to do with him. They would curl up together and just watch this
silly goose running and playing all by himself. Then he would run full blast
and jump right on top of them. I thought for sure his hours were numbered.
He has the sweetest disposition! I
have never met a kinder or more gentle dog. He is very voiceterous, and
loves to yodel at sirens and his parents when he thinks they have been gone
for too long. His favorite yodel is to the ending song on "Cheers". Chewies
and cookies are his thing, and once when he ran out the front door when UPS
was delivering, I was able to get him to stop by saying "Milk Bone!"
He was "Mr. Destructo" when he was
younger. Nothing was safe! If he had to be in the house while we were gone,
I would remove the cushions from the couch. Now, he only pulls the stuffing
from his own things. I replace his blanket before it gets down to just the
material.
Ramses was my greatest inspiration
for dog art. His classic features are perfect for Basenji pop art. He is
VERY photogenic, and after filling an entire photo album of him, I started
looking for other ways to make him the star he is. Basenji art was the
beginning of Dog Art Dog. None of this has gone to his head, as he still has
time for the little people, like everyone he meets. Not a watch dog. Nope.
But he does sound an alarm in the form of a yodel when anyone comes
visiting.
