The pom-pom cut was originally developed
to increase the poodle's swimming abilities as a retriever. The
haircut allowed for faster swimming but the pom-poms were left to
keep the joints warm.

About Shirley, My Trio Model
Shirley is being raised to be a dog
guide. Ron and I are puppy raisers for Leader Dogs for the Blind and they
are Shirley's actual owners. Shirley is an amazing dog. I do therapy dog
work with her, or should I say she does it with me? Either way she's great.
Every Monday morning we visit a school for special needs children. Shirley
has a tremendous sense of who seems to need
her.
Update On Shirley:
Well we finally have an ending to
Shirley's story. The vet at Leader Dog decided that due to Shirley having
multiple food allergies she will not be used in their training program. In
about 3 weeks she will be spayed and Leader Dog will release her to us. It
is bittersweet for us as we do not raise these puppies to be our pets.
Shirley was donated to Leader Dog in honor of a woman who had recently lost
her sight (and who she is also named after). I know her breeder will be
disappointed but Shirley will have a great new career as a therapy dog in
Standish MI at the Living and Learning Center working with the special needs
children at the school. We already visit the school weekly and Shirley has a
real gift for communicating with the kids there. She loves being there and I
am pretty sure they love her coming every week.
Of course we LOVE our Shirley a whole bunch and she will live with my
husband and myself and our other dog Micah (who could not be happier, he
also loves Shirley) and our 2 cats. The cats are refusing comment on the
permanent situation with Shirley. Oh well, you can't please every one... -Karen & Ron Sharp, Shirley's Parents
