Your Dalmatian In Stained
Glass! Dalmatian Art Stained Glass
Dalmatian Art Stained Glass
(Retired)
I saw this photo
and I just HAD to make it into glass! There was just one big problem -
glass does not come in white with black spots. So, I did what any
self-respecting artist would do, and I went about the process of creating my
own glass. I found some wonderful white Bullseye glass that could be fused
and applied a course black frit. Eight hours later, I had beautiful white
glass with fused black spots! Now I could start creating my blue-eyed
beauty.
Dalmatians are such unique and distinctive dogs that I did not want to
clutter this piece with anything other that the dog itself, so I chose to
stay with just a portrait style. The dog is accented with red glass with a
textured wave at the four corners and as his collar.
The background glass is clear "chinchilla" textured glass that has a hair
like texture to the glass. The background is limited to only two cut lines
so as to not distract from the centerpiece of the dog itself. Keeping the
background glass down to only three pieces required exact precision in the
cutting and grinding of all the adjoining pieces that make up the
Dalmatian. If the cuts and connections are not good throughout the outer
edge of the dog, those background pieces are never going to go together
smoothly.
The side panels are a heavy clear ripple that gives interest to the piece
without distracting from the Dalmatian.
This piece is 11 X 14 and framed in 1/2" zinc framing that has been polished
to a silvery shine.
