Staffordshire Bull Terrier Art Stained Glass
You know these
dogs carry themselves with a certain "attitude". They are a great, fun-
loving breed that know they look tough and solid. This was what I wanted to
capture in my pattern of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. That is why I
chose a direct head-on shot of this terrier with his face slightly tilted
upward. He has attitude, but still looks gorgeous!
The glass I found for this Bull Terrier is probably some of the most
beautiful auburn glass with golden highlights I have ever seen. It has a
rough granite texture to the backside and when raised to the sunlight, it
actually twinkled so much that I had to use a lower light just to get the
photo! All the browns in the dog are of this glass except for the small
accent glass used at the ears. The white chest and face areas called for a
type of glass that would not try to compete with the brown, but rather,
softly accent it. What I found was a heavy white on a water glass that
provided depth to the glass, just still allowed the sunlight to play
through.
Because the Bull Terrier has golden brown eyes, it became a real challenge
to find just the right glass that would allow them to be distinctive, yet
still be in the same tones as the rest of the dog. Leave it to Italy to
come through with such a specialized glass! These kinds of details may be
small, but they are all so very crucial that the search is well justified.
I am very pleased with the end result, and happy to say that this guys eyes
are just exactly the color and tone they should be!
The background for this is a beautiful Kokomo glass that just looks as if
you have cut a piece out of the sky itself. The blues and yellow/gold tones
look like the sky outside my studio. The border pieces are fun glass that
is clear with heavy drops of clear applied as texture on the backside. This
give the front of the glass a raindrop sort of look. Each corner is blue
water glass that accents the blue in the background.
This piece is framed in 3/8" zinc with a black patina, and measures 14 X 14
framed.
